Entry Response #5: Art and the Little Things in Life

After completing the still life art project, I would like you to reflect on aspects of it in relation to Benjamin Franklin, art in general, and our novel. Please answer, in brief, ALL of the following questions...

1) What do you think makes this style a style of "real" art? Do you think it is "real" art?

2) Do you feel you have created a work of art? Why? Why not? If not, What might make it feel or seem more artistic?

3) What were the ideas that we listed yesterday that made this art popular? How do these relate to Benjamin Franklin?

4) Why do you think celebrating the small things, or paying close attention to detail, might relate to our novel?

5) List three examples from our story so far that paying close attention to detail or seeing the little, more ordinary things, have helped Amy and Dan get closer to the treasure and solving the clue.

As we are now halfway through the novel, I would like us to reflect on a few of our earlier thoughts. Please take a few moments to answer the following questions. For ALL of the questions, please explain why you think what you do and what examples from the book help prove your point...

a) Who do you now think poses the biggest threat to Amy and Dan? If your opinion has changed, what has changed it, if not why not?

b) Why do you think every team is specifically targeting Amy and Dan? What do you think is so special about them?

c) Of the two main characters, Amy and Dan, who are you most alike (this is not a gender question but a personality question). What things about the character do you relate to?

d) Make a prediction for what will happen in Paris. Who will the children turn to for help, what do you think Benjamin Franklin left there, what other dangerous things might befall the children?

As we begin to meet our characters, we will see that they each have their own personality. Each of these personalities belong to a different branch of the Cahill family. Pick 2 of the following 3 questions and answer them below:

1) Pick a character and make a guess as to which family it belongs to. Use what we know about the characters to explain why...

2) Which of the characters will be the biggest threat to the children? Which will be the least? Again, use your knowledge of the characters so far to provide examples...

In The 39 Clues, Amy and Dan discover that they are members of a secret family more powerful than they could know. In this family there are four branches and each branch has its own unique personality. Describe your personality below to begin to think about which branch you may fall under. Think about how you act, what you like and dislike and what you want to be when you grow up. Also look at which animal you may feel represents you best.
